Consular processing means applying for a visa abroad at a U.S. embassy; adjustment of status is done from within the U.S.

If you’re already in the U.S., you use adjustment of status; if outside, you go through consular processing.

Both lead to a Green Card, but the process steps and timelines differ based on your location.
