What is the difference between advance parole and re-entry permit?

The main difference is that Advance Parole is a travel document for people who are in the U.S. and have a pending application (such as adjustment of status), while a Re-entry Permit is for lawful permanent residents (green card holders) who plan to travel outside the U.S. for an extended period.
