I'm an F-1 student and want to start a business in the US, but I'm not sure if I can maintain my F-1 status while running a business. What are my options?

Consult with your designated school official (DSO) to determine the impact of starting a business on your F-1 status.

Consider applying for Optional Practical Training (OPT) or other work authorization that may allow you to start a business.

F-1 students cannot legally run or actively manage a business in the U.S., but they can explore options like OPT, CPT, or changing to a different visa type.
