Do I need advance parole to travel if I have a pending I-485?

Yes, if your I-485 is pending, you need Advance Parole (Form I-131) to travel outside the U.S. Leaving the country without it is considered abandoning your green card application, unless you’re in a visa category like H-1B or L-1, which are exceptions.

If you’ve filed Form I-485 and your green card application is still in process, do not leave the U.S. without Advance Parole, unless you’re in a visa status that allows dual intent, like L-1 or H-1B. Traveling without it could result in your I-485 being automatically denied for abandonment.

Be careful, unless you have an approved Advance Parole document, leaving the U.S. can lead to your green card application being canceled
