Can I work in US as an immigrant?

Yes, but you need legal permission like a visa, green card, or work permit and if you have a green card (permanent resident), you can work freely in the U.S.

If you’re on a work visa (like H-1B or L-1), you can work for the employer who sponsored you.

If you have asylum or refugee status, you can apply for a work permit (EAD) but if you are in the U.S. on a tourist visa, you cannot work.

Some family-based visa holders can apply for work permits too but if you working without permission is illegal and can affect your immigration status.
