You can apply for a change of status if you were lawfully admitted to the US, maintain your current status, and haven't violated any conditions. You'll need to file Form I-539 and meet F-1 visa requirements.

You'll need to submit Form I-539, pay the required fee, and provide supporting documents, including a valid Form I-20 from your school. It's essential to apply before your authorized stay expires.

If your application is approved, your F-1 status will be effective from the date of final adjudication. You can't engage in F-1 activities, like on-campus employment, until 30 days before your academic program start date
