My H-1B six-year limit is approaching, but my green card is not yet approved. Can I extend my H-1B beyond six years?

Yes, in many cases H-1B status can be extended beyond six years if certain green card milestones are met. If a PERM or immigrant petition has been pending or approved within specific timeframes, extensions may be available in one-year or three-year increments. These extensions are not automatic and must be carefully documented. Planning ahead is essential to avoid gaps in work authorization.

The ability to extend H-1B status depends heavily on timing. Delays in starting the green card process can limit options later. Employers and employees should coordinate early to ensure eligibility for post-six-year extensions and avoid unnecessary pressure as deadlines approach.
