Living in the Bronx has been a big adjustment, and during my time here I met someone I deeply care about. Our relationship is now moving toward marriage, but I worry about how this step affects my immigration situation. Coming from Ghana, I want to be sure everything is done properly. How does marriage change my options, and what should I be careful about as we plan our future together?

Marriage can open a pathway to lawful status if the relationship is genuine and properly documented.

If your spouse is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, they may be able to sponsor you. The process involves petitions, background checks, and interviews. Timing and accuracy are very important.

Immigration officers closely review marriage cases to prevent fraud. You should gather evidence showing a real shared life together. Getting legal guidance can help avoid mistakes and delays.
