I’ve been living in the U.S. for a few months now on a temporary visa, and I’m originally from Turkey. Lately, I’ve been thinking seriously about staying here long term. There are so many immigration options out there—green cards through work, family-based paths, or even the lottery system—but it’s a bit overwhelming. As someone from Turkey, what are the most realistic and accessible immigration routes I should be looking into in 2025? I want to understand my chances and where to start.

If you have a strong educational background or specialized skills, you might qualify for an EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based green card. These require employer sponsorship, but they’re very common paths for professionals.

Marrying a U.S. citizen is probably the fastest route to a green card, if it’s a legitimate relationship. The process still takes time, but it bypasses some of the long backlogs you’d face with employment-based petitions. Just be ready with solid documentation to prove your marriage is real.

Honestly, don’t overlook the Diversity Visa Lottery. Turkey is one of the eligible countries, and the application is free. Even though it’s luck-based, I know people who’ve won it; it’s a great backup to try every year while you’re pursuing other options.
