I was laid off while on an H-1B, how much time do I have to find a new job?

You have a 60-day grace period to either find a new employer who can transfer your H-1B or change your visa status.

If you don’t act within those 60 days, you may have to leave the U.S. to avoid being out of status.

Use this time wisely i.e. keep records of job applications and stay in touch with immigration professionals.

If needed, explore switching to a visitor visa or student status temporarily as a backup plan.
