I entered USA on a tourist visa but got a job offer so I want to change my status without having to leave the country. Is it possible?

Its possible as long as you file form I-129 through your employer before your tourist status expire

you may be able to change your status from a tourist visa to a work visa like h1B without leaving the US

Yes but like Stamos said, do it before your current visa expires
