I came to the United States from Bangladesh on a visiting visa primarily to explore schools I’m interested in for further studies. I want to make sure I understand the programs, campuses, and local environment before committing to an application. While here, I also want to attend information sessions and maybe meet some professors. I’m trying to figure out what I can and cannot do on my current visa, and how to transition smoothly to a student visa once I’ve decided on the school. What should I be aware of to stay compliant and plan ahead effectively?

You can visit campuses, attend public sessions, and gather information on a B-2 visa. Avoid enrolling in classes or working without authorization.

Once you choose a school, you’ll need an I-20 to apply for an F-1 student visa. Changing status from B-2 to F-1 is possible but requires careful timing and documentation. You must prove intent to return home after your studies if required. Consulting your school’s international office early can help you prepare a smooth transition.

Make sure all your activities while on a visiting visa stay within permitted limits. Do not accept employment, internships, or credit courses without authorization. Keep records of campus visits and school communications—they may help your visa application. Planning ahead ensures you avoid violations and maintain eligibility for student status.

You cannot enroll in the university of fake any course that counts towards a degree on a visitor visa
