I applied for asylum six months ago, can I apply for a work permit now, or do I have to wait longer?

You can apply for a work permit now—150 days after filing your I‑589, and typically receive your EAD around the 180‑day mark, assuming no delays you caused

Yes, you can apply for a work permit now since you are allowed to file after your asylum application has been pending for 150 days.
