I am from Ukraine, and I came to the United States shortly after the war began in my country. I have been staying here while the situation back home remains dangerous, and I want to understand what my options are to continue living legally in the U.S. without risking deportation. I’ve heard about some special protections for Ukrainians, but I’m not sure which ones apply to me or how to apply. What should I know?

You may be eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which allows Ukrainians to stay in the U.S. legally and receive work authorization. It’s important to apply before the deadline. Check the current requirements and ensure you maintain any documents showing you have been present in the U.S. since the required date.

If you entered with a visa or parole, make sure you keep your status valid or explore any extension options. Some people may qualify for asylum if they fear persecution or harm due to the war. Speaking with a licensed immigration attorney can help you understand the best path for your case.

USCIS has specific humanitarian programs available to Ukrainians, including work permits and possible family-based opportunities. Applying early reduces the risk of gaps in your legal status. Keep copies of all immigration paperwork and stay updated because rules can change over time.
