Can someone apply for asylum if they’ve been in the U.S. for over a year but didn’t feel safe coming forward until now?

Yes, but they must show exceptional circumstances or changed conditions that explain the delay. It’s best to speak with an immigration attorney right away.

Yeah, it’s possible but they’ll need a really good reason for missing the one-year deadline. Definitely talk to an immigration lawyer ASAP.

Generally, asylum applications must be filed within one year of arrival in the US, but exceptions may apply if the individual can demonstrate changed circumstances or extraordinary circumstances that prevented them from filing on time

Yes, it’s still possible especially if fear or trauma kept them from applying sooner. They should talk to a trusted immigration attorney who can help them navigate the process safely.
