As this academic year comes to an end, I am starting to think seriously about what happens next. Completing my program as an international student from Senegal feels like a major milestone, but also brings uncertainty. What options should I be considering after graduation if I want to stay compliant, gain experience, or possibly remain in the United States longer?

Many students begin by applying for post-completion OPT if their program and status allow it.

OPT can give you time to work in your field and gain U.S. experience. It also allows you to plan next steps without rushing into decisions. Timing your application correctly is very important.

Other options include returning to school, pursuing employer sponsorship, or preparing to return home. Each path has different requirements and risks. Speaking with an immigration advisor early helps you choose wisely.
