After settling into life in the United States for a while, I’ve started thinking seriously about finding a stable job here. Since I originally came from Turkey on a temporary status, I’m unsure what employment options are actually allowed for me. What should someone in my position understand before applying for work?

Your ability to work depends entirely on the type of visa you currently hold. Not all visas allow employment, and working without authorization can cause serious immigration problems.

If your current status does not permit work, you may need a separate employment authorization document. Some people qualify through student programs, pending applications, or employer sponsorship. An employer willing to file for a work visa can open additional doors depending on your field. Each option has strict rules, so reviewing them early helps you stay compliant.

You should confirm your specific visa restrictions before accepting any job offer. An immigration attorney can help you explore the safest legal paths.
