While living and working in Romania, I’ve started thinking about relocating to the United States for better career opportunities and long-term stability. I don’t currently have family in the U.S., but I have professional experience and a university degree. What realistic immigration paths could someone in my position explore?

One common pathway is an employment-based visa if a U.S. employer is willing to sponsor you. This often starts with temporary visas such as H-1B for specialized professionals.

Another possibility is pursuing further education in the U.S. through an F-1 student visa. After graduation, Optional Practical Training (OPT) can allow temporary work experience in your field.

Romania is also eligible for the Diversity Visa Lottery program, which provides a chance to apply for permanent residency if selected. The program opens once a year and requires meeting basic education or work experience requirements. Many applicants use it as an additional pathway while exploring other immigration options.
