Voluntary departure is a form of relief from removal that allows a noncitizen to leave the United States on their own, at their own expense, instead of being formally deported. It is typically granted by an immigration judge or DHS and can help the individual avoid a removal order, which carries more serious immigration consequences and bars to reentry.
