What happens if my spouse and I divorce during green card processing?

If you divorce before your green card is approved, your application will likely be denied unless you qualify under a different category. A marriage-based green card depends on a valid and ongoing marital relationship. USCIS may view the end of the marriage as grounds to terminate the petition, especially if you are still in the conditional or adjustment of status phase.
