What actually happens if I over stay in the us ?

Depending on how long you overstayed a US visa, you might be banned from reentering the US for: A period of three years – if you stay in the country for more than 180 continuous days but less than one year past your visa's expiry date and you leave before formal deportation procedures are initiated

If you overstay for more than 180 days but less than a year, you will face a ban from returning to the US for three years. If you overstay by more than a year, that ban extends to ten years.
