The moment I opened my mailbox and saw a Notice to Appear, everything in my life seemed to freeze. I have been living quietly in the United States after leaving Tibet, and I never expected to be placed in removal proceedings. I am confused about what this document actually means for my future and how quickly I need to take action. What steps should someone in my situation focus on right away?

An NTA means the government has started the process to remove you, so the first step is contacting an experienced immigration attorney immediately. They can review the charges and prepare your defense before your first hearing.

You should check the date, time, and location of your hearing to make sure you attend without fail. Missing even one hearing can result in an automatic removal order. Start gathering documents that show your history, hardships, and ties to the community. These details can help you build a stronger case for relief.

Do not ignore the NTA because responding quickly gives you the best chance of protecting your future in the United States.
