Since moving to Georgia from Senegal earlier this year, I’ve been living here under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which I received after applying in late 2024. My work permit was approved in early 2025, and I’ve been working part-time while staying in touch with my immigration lawyer. Recently, I heard that TPS holders might be able to apply for a green card in some cases, but I’m not sure what the exact requirements are or if that applies to people from Senegal. I want to understand whether TPS offers a real path to permanent residency or if it’s just a temporary measure.

TPS alone does not lead to a green card, but if you meet other qualifications, such as marriage to a U.S. citizen or an approved family or employment petition, you may be able to adjust status while under TPS.

Some TPS holders can adjust status if they entered the U.S. lawfully and meet all eligibility requirements. However, for those who entered without inspection, adjustment is more complicated and may require advance parole or other legal strategies.

If a new immigration law or court decision expands green card access for TPS holders in the future, that could change your options. For now, it’s best to maintain your TPS, renew on time, and explore other pathways through family or employment sponsorship.
