Return to US while on Green card: I am currently out from US since almost 5 months. My mom health is very bad. It would still take 1-2 months before I return to the US. I came to India on 4th April due to mom health and i might be able to go after october 2025. Do I must come back to US before 180 days are over (around 4th October)? I am planning to file Green card for my son who is 24 years old and in the US on student visa. Would there be any effect if in his filings or his overall case if I return back to US after 180 days are over but before 365 days gets over?

Leaving the U.S. for more than 180 days but less than one year as a green card holder does not automatically lead to losing your status, but it does carry risks. Returning after six months will likely result in extra questioning at the port of entry regarding your intent to maintain permanent U.S. residence.
