How long can I stay on a work visa?

It depends on the type of work visa you have each visa has different time limits for example, an H-1B visa usually allows you to stay up to 3 years, with the possibility to extend for another 3 years (maximum 6 years total).

An L-1 visa for company transfers typically allows 1 to 3 years at first, with extensions up to 5 or 7 years depending on your role.

An O-1 visa for individuals with extraordinary ability can be granted for up to 3 years, with unlimited 1-year extensions.

You must leave the U.S. when your authorized stay ends, unless you extend, change your status, or adjust to a green card.
