Can I change my name during the naturalization process?

Yes, you can request a legal name change as part of your U.S. citizenship (naturalization) application.

You can do this by filling out the name change section on Form N-400, the naturalization application.

After naturalization, you can also change your name separately through a local court if your oath wasn’t court-based.

USCIS allows name changes through naturalization only if your oath ceremony is held in a court.
