I’m engaged to a U.S. citizen—should I apply for a K-1 visa or marry first?

If you’re outside the U.S., apply for a K-1 visa. If you’re already in the U.S., marrying first may allow adjustment of status.

Congrats on your engagement! If you’re outside the U.S., go for the K-1 visa. If you’re already in the U.S., getting married first may be the smoother path.

If you're engaged to a U.S. citizen, applying for a K-1 visa allows your fiancé(e) to enter the U.S. and marry within 90 days, after which you can apply for a Green Card; alternatively, you can get married first and apply for a spousal visa or Green Card through the I-130 petition process

You can apply for a K-1 visa to marry in the US within 90 days or get married first and apply for a spousal visa, both options have pros and cons!
