I have a friend that has overstayed his visa for like 8 months, what are his options now?

If he leaves voluntarily, he may face a 3-year bar from reentry but could still qualify for some waivers.

Also If he qualifies for marriage-based adjustment or another form of relief, he might be able to stay and adjust status. But I would say best to engage an attorney at this point.
