I filed asylum, but now want to leave the U.S. What happens to my case?

If you leave the U.S. while your asylum case is pending, your case will likely be considered abandoned and will be closed. USCIS or the immigration court sees departure as a sign that you no longer fear returning to your home country.

Be extremely careful. Leaving, especially without Advance Parole—almost always means your asylum case will be automatically closed. It also raises questions about whether your original fear of persecution was genuine.
