I came to the U.S. on a tourist visa to help care for my grandchild temporarily, but my family situation has kind of changed (I'd rather not go into details). Now they need me to stay longer so I can support. Is it possible to extend my stay or change my status without leaving the country?

Yes, you can apply to extend your stay or change your status while in the U.S. Just make sure to do it before your visa expires.

You could look for part-time work or consult an immigration lawyer to see how to maintain your visa status.
