Yes, you can change your status while you’re in the U.S. on a tourist visa, but it depends on the visa type you’re switching to. You’ll need to file a request with USCIS using Form I-539 to change your status before your current visa expires. If approved, you won’t need to leave the country to switch

I’ve been through this myself! I was in the U.S. on a tourist visa and wanted to transition to a student visa. It took a lot of paperwork, but I submitted Form I-539 with all the required evidence, like proof of enrollment in school, and waited for USCIS to process it. It wasn’t quick, but it worked.

You can apply to change your status, but the rules are strict. Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the new visa category and file everything on time. If you overstay your current visa while waiting for approval, you could face complications.

Switching from a tourist visa to another visa type is possible if USCIS permits it. However, you need strong documentation proving why you want to switch and that you meet the qualifications for the new visa type. Without proper evidence, your application could be denied.
