How does applying for asylum in the U.S. even work? What steps do you need to take?

To apply for asylum in the U.S., you need to file Form I-589 within a year of arriving. After that, you’ll go through fingerprinting, background checks, and an interview to present your case. It’s a long process, but it’s worth it if you’re seeking safety.

i hve been through this with a family member. They had to submit Form I-589, attend a biometric appointment, and then wait for an interview with an asylum officer. It took months, but they were eventually granted asylum
