Can I work in the U.S. while my asylum application is pending?

When I applied for asylum, I learned that I could apply for a work permit (EAD) after my application had been pending for 150 days. Once approved, I was able to work legally while waiting for the asylum decision. It was a relief to have this option during the process.

The work permit gave me more stability and independence, which made the lengthy asylum process easier to endure.

While I was seeking asylum, I applied for employment authorization, which allowed me to work legally after fulfilling the required waiting period
