My niece is a medical student abroad and wants to do her residency in the U.S. What visa should she apply for?

She should apply for a J-1 visa for medical residency or, if sponsored by a hospital, possibly an H-1B visa depending on the program’s requirements.

Your niece can apply for a J-1 visa to pursue medical residency in the U.S. It’s a great path for international medical graduates chasing their dreams.

She’ll likely need a J-1 visa for her U.S. medical residency, but some programs may support an H-1B—best to check with the hospital offering the placement.
