My immigration case has been pending far longer than expected, and I’m starting to feel anxious about the lack of updates. I check my case status regularly, but nothing seems to change for months. I’m unsure whether this delay is normal or if something may be wrong. At what point should applicants take action regarding prolonged processing times, and what steps are appropriate without risking negative attention on the case?

Processing delays are common due to backlogs, security checks, and staffing limitations. However, when a case exceeds normal processing times, applicants may submit a formal inquiry. This does not harm the case and often prompts review. Staying organized, tracking timelines, and maintaining updated contact information are essential. Patience is important, but reasonable follow-up is appropriate.

Applicants can contact customer service or submit an online inquiry once their case is outside posted processing times. In some situations, requesting assistance through an attorney or representative can help. Avoid excessive inquiries, as repeated contact rarely speeds things up. Focus on compliance and readiness while waiting.

I waited over a year with no updates. Once my case passed normal timelines, I submitted an inquiry and received movement within weeks. Follow-ups can be effective when done properly.
