Moving to Los Angeles as a teenager shaped most of my adult life, and now at twenty-one, I am starting to think seriously about my future in the United States. My parents and I arrived from Egypt six years ago, and since then I have gone to school here, built friendships, and grown up in this system. I am unsure how my age at entry and my time spent here affect my immigration options now that I am legally an adult. What pathways might be available to someone like me, and what should I be careful about as I plan my next steps?

Your age when you entered the U.S. and the length of time you have lived here can be very important. Some immigration options depend on whether you were a minor when certain events occurred. Family-based or humanitarian options may be relevant depending on your parents’ status. Reviewing your full history helps clarify what applies.

If your parents are pursuing or already have lawful status, that may open options for you as their child. Timing matters, especially now that you are over twenty-one. Each category has specific requirements.

You should gather records showing your continuous residence, schooling, and family ties in the U.S. Staying compliant with any current status is critical. Avoid making assumptions based on friends’ experiences. Consulting an immigration attorney can help you map a realistic and safe plan forward.
