I’ve been living in the United States for several years, and I want to help bring my younger sibling from Jordan to join me here. I’m not sure what the process looks like, how long it might take, or what requirements I need to meet as the sponsoring family member. What steps should I consider?

You may be able to file a family-sponsored petition (Form I-130) for your sibling. Approval depends on your status ...U.S. citizens can petition siblings, while permanent residents cannot. Processing times can be several years.

The process involves proving your relationship, submitting required documentation, and waiting for a visa number to become available. Patience is necessary, as sibling visas are in high demand and backlogged for many countries.

Once the petition is approved and a visa becomes available, your sibling will go through consular processing in Jordan, including an interview and background checks. Consulting an immigration attorney can help ensure your petition is filed correctly and efficiently.
