I’ve been living in Maine for several years now as a green card holder, and I finally have my naturalization interview scheduled in a few weeks. I’m originally from Bangladesh, and while I’ve been studying the questions, I’m nervous about what else they may ask me. Will the officer only ask from the civics test, or should I expect more personal and background questions during my citizenship interview?

They will ask both civics and English questions, but also some about your application and background. Be ready to confirm details from your N-400 form.

The interview covers civics and English, but officers often ask personal questions to verify your eligibility. For example, they may ask about your travel history, family, or work. As long as your answers match your application, you should be fine.

Expect a combination of civics, English, and personal questions. The officer will check your N-400 details, including trips outside the U.S., your marital status, and employment.

They may also ask about your commitment to the Constitution and whether you’ve paid taxes. It’s not just a test of knowledge, but also of honesty and consistency.
