I’m originally from Zimbabwe, and I’m currently on my journey toward becoming a U.S. citizen. I’ve completed most of the requirements, but I’m a bit anxious about the final stages, especially the interview and civics test. What should I expect during the naturalization interview, and how can I best prepare to ensure everything goes smoothly?

You’ll be asked questions about your background and U.S. civics, so preparation and honesty are key.

During the interview, a USCIS officer will review your application, ask about your history, and test your English and civics knowledge. You can use the official USCIS study materials to prepare. Practice helps build confidence and ensures you understand what to expect on the day.

The naturalization interview is meant to confirm your eligibility and assess your understanding of U.S. civics. You’ll answer questions about your background, moral character, and attachment to the Constitution. You’ll also take a short English and civics test unless exempted. Arrive on time, bring all required documents, and practice your English conversation beforehand to feel more confident.
