I’m from the Philippines and just started studying in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa. I really like my school, but I’m struggling with the tuition costs and wondering if I can legally work more hours to support myself. Are there any options for international students to earn money while studying? P.S I don't want to break any US immigration rule. that's why I'm asking on an immigration forum.

F-1 students can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the school term. Off-campus work requires special authorization like CPT or OPT, depending on your program.

You’re allowed limited on-campus employment during the semester, such as working in the library or cafeteria. For off-campus work, you must first get approval through your Designated School Official (DSO) and USCIS. Programs like CPT (Curricular Practical Training) or OPT (Optional Practical Training) let you work in your field of study.

As an F-1 student, your employment options are restricted, but not impossible. You can work part-time on campus while school is in session. After completing one academic year, you may be eligible for CPT or OPT, which allow paid off-campus work related to your major. It’s essential to follow USCIS rules to maintain your visa status.
