I’m from Syria and experienced serious abuse during my childhood, which forced me to leave home at a very young age. I’m now in the United States, but over time I became undocumented and I’m constantly afraid of being detained or removed. Returning to Syria feels unsafe because of my past trauma and lack of family protection. I want to understand whether my history of abuse and my current situation in the U.S. give me any legal protection or pathway to stay, and what steps I should take immediately.

You may qualify for humanitarian immigration options where past abuse and risk of harm are legally relevant. These cases are very fact-specific and usually require professional legal guidance.

Depending on the details, options such as asylum or special protections for abuse survivors may be available. Timing, evidence, and how you entered the U.S. matter a lot. Speaking with an immigration attorney or a trusted legal aid organization as soon as possible is critical.

Being undocumented does not automatically mean removal is immediate. In some cases, legal filings can pause enforcement while your situation is reviewed.
