I’m from Syria and currently living in Idaho under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). I recently got an opportunity to move to Colorado for a better job, but I’m not sure if moving to another state will affect my TPS or work authorization. Do I need to inform USCIS or update my address before moving? Also, I’ve heard rumors that TPS designations can change. What would happen if Syria’s TPS status were to end while I’m still in the United States?

You can move freely within the U.S. under TPS, but you must update your address with USCIS within 10 days of moving. Your work authorization remains valid as long as your TPS status is active.

Moving to another state doesn’t affect your TPS itself, but it could impact where your future applications are processed. Always file an address change using Form AR-11 online or by mail. Keeping your record updated ensures you don’t miss any critical USCIS notices.

If Syria’s TPS designation ends, you would lose the protection from deportation and work authorization once the grace period expires. However, you may qualify for another immigration pathway, such as asylum, adjustment of status through family, or employment-based options. It’s crucial to speak with an immigration attorney before the designation expires. That way, you can plan your next step safely and legally.
