I’m from Northern Nigeria and currently living in Los Angeles. I recently completed my degree and want to start a career in the U.S., but I’m unsure about the visa options available for foreign graduates. What are my possible paths to legally work and build my career here?

You can explore the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program if you studied on an F-1 visa. It allows temporary work in your field of study.

Many international graduates transition from OPT to the H-1B visa, which lets U.S. employers hire foreign professionals. You’ll need a sponsoring company willing to file for you. Networking and gaining U.S. experience through internships can improve your chances of sponsorship.

You can apply for OPT or change your status to a work visa like h1B

If you’ve completed your studies, you might also consider employment-based green card options. Some employers are open to sponsoring foreign workers permanently. Alternatively, if you have advanced qualifications or unique skills, the EB-2 National Interest Waiver could fit. Consult an immigration attorney to plan the right career-based visa route.
