I’m from Kosovo and recently arrived in the U.S. on a K-1 fiancé visa. I just got married to my U.S. citizen partner. What should I do next to stay in status and apply for a green card?

After getting married within 90 days of your arrival, you should file Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) to apply for your green card. Include supporting documents like your marriage certificate and proof of a real relationship.

You can also file Form I-765 for a work permit and Form I-131 for advance parole (travel permission) at the same time as your green card application. These allow you to work and travel while your case is pending.

Make sure to attend your biometrics appointment and later the USCIS interview with your spouse. Be prepared to answer questions about your relationship and provide documentation showing you live together or share finances.
