I'm from Israel and recently arrived in Oregon on a B2 tourist visa. My best friend here is an American citizen and wants to go on a road trip across a few states. We’re planning to split costs for gas and hotels, but she mentioned I could drive her car during some stretches. I have my valid Israeli driver’s license and an International Driving Permit. Is it legal for me to drive in the U.S. as a tourist, especially across multiple states? And would this affect my visa status in any way?

Yes, with a valid Israeli license and an International Driving Permit, you can legally drive in most U.S. states as a tourist. Just make sure to follow each state’s specific rules during your trip.

Driving a friend’s car while on a B2 visa is generally fine as long as it’s not for work or payment. Your Israeli license plus an IDP should cover you in most states. Be sure the car’s insurance policy allows you as a driver.

Tourists can usually drive in the U.S. if they have a valid foreign license and an International Driving Permit, which you already do. Just confirm with your friend’s car insurance company that you're covered as a driver. Also, remember that laws can vary slightly from state to state. Stick to driving for leisure, not work or delivery apps. It won’t impact your visa status if you're not getting paid.
