I’m from India and currently living in Georgia, US, on an H-1B visa. My current job may be ending soon. What are my options if I want to stay in the U.S. legally after my employment ends? I really want to say back and continue working, but I'm not sure about my options.

You have a 60-day grace period from the last day of employment to either find a new H-1B sponsor, change your visa status, or leave the U.S. If another employer files a new H-1B petition within that window, you can remain without leaving the country.

If you're unable to secure new employment quickly, you may consider switching to a different status such as B-2 (visitor) or enrolling in a qualifying academic program to apply for an F-1 student visa. Though this must be carefully timed to avoid a gap in status.

If your spouse holds H-1B status or another valid visa, and you're eligible as a dependent, you could apply to change to H-4 or another derivative status to remain legally in the U.S. while exploring longer-term options.
