I’m from Eritrea and currently living in New York. With everything happening in 2025 and the uncertainty about conditions back home, I’m wondering if I can apply or extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) this year. What are the latest updates for Eritrean nationals, and how should I proceed with my application?

Yes, Eritrean nationals may still qualify for TPS if the designation remains active in 2025. You’ll need to check the current Federal Register notice for re-registration dates. Submitting your renewal on time helps you maintain legal stay and work authorization.

You should consult an immigration attorney to confirm eligibility and ensure your TPS application or renewal is filed before the deadline.

If Eritrea’s TPS designation is extended, you must submit Form I-821 and Form I-765 together with supporting documents. Late filings may only be accepted under specific conditions. Keep an eye on USCIS updates for the latest re-registration window. Staying proactive ensures your protection from removal continues without interruption.
