I’m from Colombia on an H-4 visa and want to work in the U.S. Can I get a work permit, or am I completely restricted from employment?

You can apply for an H-4 EAD only if your H-1B spouse has an approved I-140 or meets certain H-1B extensions.

Without an approved EAD, working in any paid role is unauthorized and can risk your status.

Many H-4 holders successfully get EADs; processing times vary, so apply early and track your application.
