I’m from Chad, and I first lived in Wyoming for a little over three years before recently moving to Los Angeles just last week. Since this is a major change in location and lifestyle, I want to make sure I’m not missing any important immigration-related steps. Are there specific updates, filings, or requirements I should complete after moving to a new state? I want to be certain I’m fully compliant and aware of everything I’m expected to do as an immigrant.

Anytime you move within the U.S., you’re required to update your address with USCIS within 10 days using Form AR-11. This applies even if your immigration status hasn’t changed. It ensures you receive all notices and avoid accidental non-compliance.

If you’re waiting on any pending USCIS applications, updating your address is especially important so notices are sent to the correct location. You should also update your address with the DMV and Social Security Administration if needed. These updates help keep your records consistent across agencies.

Since you’re now in California, you may also want to look into state-specific benefits, residency rules, or healthcare options depending on your status. Some states offer different resources or requirements for immigrants than others. Taking time to understand local regulations can help you stay compliant and make the most of your new environment.
