I’m from Brazil and currently living in Hawaii. I recently received a Notice to Appear (NTA), and I’m really anxious because I don’t fully understand what it means or what happens next. Does this mean I’m being deported immediately, or is there still a chance to fix my situation?

An NTA means you’ve been placed in removal proceedings, but it doesn’t mean immediate deportation. You’ll have the opportunity to present your case before an immigration judge.

You should contact an immigration attorney as soon as possible. The NTA outlines why the government believes you should be removed, but you may have defenses; like asylum, cancellation of removal, or adjustment of status. Missing your court date can result in an automatic removal order. Acting quickly is crucial.

This situation is serious but not hopeless. You still have rights and potential legal options to remain in the U.S. Make sure you attend every hearing and gather documents that support your case.
